Show Your Car Some Love This Valentine’s Day

We name them, talk to them, baby them and even buy them cute fuzzy dice. Cars hold a special place among all our possessions — and often a special place in our hearts. We remember fondly our very first car and all the fun adventures we took together.

If your plus-one has four wheels, here are some ways to show it some love this Valentine’s Day — and all year long.

A romantic bubble bath. Nothing pampers your passenger vehicle like a warm, soapy wash. Keep your car looking its very best by washing it frequently to prevent the buildup of dirt, dust, pollen and debris that can mar your finish over time. And don’t forget to add a layer of protection. When a coat of wax is applied to a car’s surface and then buffed off, a thin layer remains that helps protect it from UV damage and minor scratches. Wax can hide small imperfections and restore a youthful showroom glow.

Primp and pamper. If you want to go the extra mile to treat your car to a rejuvenating “spa” treatment, consider having it professionally detailed. As opposed to a run-of-the-mill car wash, detailing involves special tools and cleaners that get at every nook and cranny to make it look like you just drove your vehicle off the dealer lot.

Dress to impress. Maintaining your tires in good condition and keeping them properly inflated can help you stay safer on the road. But if you really want to impress, dress your tires and rims for a bit of extra street cred when you’re cruising around town.

Would you like to come in? Garaging your car whenever possible will keep your paint in good condition and can help protect your exterior finish from the elements. But if a garage isn’t part of your floor plan, you can always purchase a stylish car cover to keep your baby warm, dry and protected.

May I buy you a drink? You may not be able to share a cocktail with your coupe, but a number of fluids keep things running smoothly, so it’s important to top them off on a regular basis. Have your mechanic or local auto service center check the levels of your engine oil, brake fluid, steering fluid, coolant, windshield wiper fluid and transmission fluid.

The light of your life. Headlamps can develop a film that eventually creates a hazy appearance and diminishes nighttime visibility. Luckily, a professional detailer can often return their sparkle. And there are some off-the-shelf, DIY products that promise similar results.

Bling for your baby. There are so many fun and extravagant aftermarket accessories you can treat your car to. But few can beat SP Green & Co.'s diamond-studded Ferrari ignition key. Encrusted with more than seven karats’ worth of precious gemstones, the bejeweled key can be yours for a mere $23,147 (Ferrari not included).

Come here often? Want to take your baby on a special date? For romance, nothing says “I love you” more in car-speak than a double feature at the drive-in. But if it’s still too chilly for that where you live, consider a scenic drive, complete with a rocking road-trip playlist and your favorite drive-thru fare.

Protect the One You Love

The most important way you can show your car some love is to protect it with car insurance. There are many hazards on the road, and you’ll enjoy the ride all the more when you know that you and your four-wheeled friend are covered in the event of a fender-bender or other peril. Your local We Insure agent can give you a fast and free quote from a top-quality carrier. They’ll answer all your questions, review coverage options and look for any available discounts to help you save.
